Leadership through enterprise & purpose

Mr. Mayirjiang currently serves as the Chairman of Xinjiang Zhong-Pa Investment Holding Group. This successful young Tajik entrepreneur has been successively awarded honorary titles including the “National Youth Unity and Progress Excellence Award across All Ethnic Groups,” “China Youth Entrepreneurship Award,” “Outstanding Figure Dedicated to Public Welfare,” “Star of Public Welfare,” and the “Most Caring Charity Role Model” at the 8th China Charity Awards by the Ministry of Labor and Social Security, the Communist Youth League Central Committee, the China Association of Social and Cultural Public Welfare, the China Development Strategy Research Society, the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce, and the China Patriotic Project Federation.

At the same time, he was ranked 77th on the 2007–2008 Hurun Charity List, making him the only Xinjiang entrepreneur to enter this ranking list.

Photographed at a formal reception with the head of one of the largest casino groups in the business — gilded gates, a red carpet, and the kind of acquaintance that is made slowly rather than arranged.

Relationships of this sort are the quiet architecture of a trading life. Three decades of moving goods across borders has meant three decades of meeting the people who move them, and the friendships have long outlasted any single transaction.

Across the mountains

In the Kyrgyz Republic

Beneath the flag and state seal of the Kyrgyz Republic, a handshake with a minister of the Kyrgyz government.

Kyrgyzstan lies just across the mountains from Tashkurgan, and it has been on his trading map since the earliest days — one of the neighbouring countries whose language he learned and whose markets he helped open. Meetings such as this one turn a trader’s route into a working relationship between two countries.

Four decades of trade and of giving, in the order they happened.

1985

First profit — and first giving

Sells five carpets in Kashgar for a profit of 1,200 yuan, and begins visiting frontier troops — a practice he has kept up for four decades.

1986

On the Karakoram

At eighteen, near a tunnel on the Pakistani stretch of the Karakoram Highway.

1987

Interpreter abroad

Works as an interpreter for a Xinjiang petroleum company in Kuwait.

1988

Eight countries

Serves as interpreter to a senior Xinjiang leader on a tour of eight nations.

1998

Giving back

Donates a library to a Xinjiang border-defence regiment.

1999

Into the USA

Business talks in the United States; visits an American garment factory and presents a traditional Tajik hat.

2005 & 2008

Earthquake relief in Pakistan

Provides around 5,000 tents to displaced families, with food and essential relief supplies.

2008

Wenchuan earthquake

Donates 1.84 million yuan in cash and goods to the relief effort.

2012

Jobs for veterans

Invests 30 million yuan to found Urumqi Zhongpa Taxi Co., creating 500 jobs with hiring priority for veterans and ethnic-minority drivers.

2013

China Charity Award

Honoured at the 8th China Charity Awards as a Model of Compassion; donates 1.5 million yuan to rebuild a school after the Ya’an earthquake.

China Charity Award. Honoured at the 8th China Charity Awards as a Model of Compassion — among the country’s highest philanthropic recognitions.
National Model for Supporting the Military. Recognised for four decades of continuous support to frontier troops since 1985.
4,000+ students sponsored. University students supported, with a dedicated scholarship fund at Xinjiang University.
Schools built. A 9,600 m² modern primary school in Shanshan County, and a kindergarten in Ya’an, Sichuan.
Hospitals and wards. A charity hospital in Yining County, and a ward treating over a thousand children with congenital heart disease.
